I don't think being strong requires being a bully, being intimidating, or being angry all the time. What this looks like may vary from one culture to the next, so the Russian style may be more forceful.

The most effective bosses gain respect and create results by being clear and firm!

Oh, and I definitely agree with you about one thing -- I AM a big joke!
